Sri Lankan police have carried out multiple raids in recent days across various districts, targeting illegal liquor production and distribution. Operations in areas including Padukka, Negombo, Talahena, Anuradhapura, Dankotuwa, and Horana resulted in the arrest of several individuals, both men and women, ranging in age from 44 to 61. Authorities seized substantial quantities of illicit alcohol, including 67.5 liters (90 bottles) in Padukka and Negombo, 86 liters (115 bottles) in Talahena, 33.75 liters (45 bottles) in Anuradhapura, and 187.5 liters (250 bottles) in Horana. Additionally, a significant underground distillery was raided in Dankotuwa, yielding 400 bottles of illegal liquor along with large volumes of 'goda' (raw material) and brewing equipment. In Anuradhapura, police confiscated over 1170 liters of 'goda' during two separate operations. The arrested suspects have been handed over to local police stations for further investigation and legal proceedings.
