The Sri Lanka Police have issued a public advisory, urging citizens to exercise caution when using social media during the ongoing Sinhala and Tamil New Year (Avurudu) festive season. The warning specifically advises against sharing real-time travel updates, including photos, videos, and selfies, while away from home. According to Police Media Spokesperson F.U. Wuttler, such posts inadvertently signal to potential thieves that residences are vacant, making them vulnerable targets for theft of valuables like money and gold. The police emphasize that sharing travel experiences should be done after returning home to ensure personal and property safety.
