Police Announce Strict Action Against Vehicles Emitting Excessive Black Smoke

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera, has announced that strict legal action will be taken against vehicles emitting excessive black smoke on public roads. This initiative follows numerous complaints received by the police regarding such vehicles. Authorities will collaborate with Motor Traffic inspectors to identify, inspect, and take these vehicles into police custody. The DIG highlighted air pollution as a serious global issue, contributing to nearly one million deaths annually, underscoring the importance of controlling high smoke emissions. The public is also encouraged to report offending vehicles by sending their number plates or video evidence to the WhatsApp number 070 3500525.
