A police constable attached to Peliyagoda Police Headquarters has been arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). The officer is accused of soliciting and accepting a Rs. 200,000 bribe to release an individual arrested on April 19. The suspect had been apprehended by the Peliyagoda Police Anti-Vice Unit for possession of "Ice" (crystal methamphetamine) and was allegedly to be freed without legal action. Following his arrest, the constable was presented before the Colombo Chief Magistrate and remanded. Reports indicate two constables were involved in the alleged bribe transaction.
