The total number of foreign nationals arrested in Chilaw for an online financial scam has been confirmed as 147. These arrests were made at a leading hotel in the Iranawila area of Chilaw, which had been leased to Chinese nationals approximately two months ago. The detainees include 133 Chinese nationals, 13 Bangladeshi nationals, and 1 Vietnamese national. Authorities found a significant number of computers at the premises, and residents had previously grown suspicious after being told the individuals were conducting computer-related training.

Police units, including the Criminal Investigation Department's Computer Unit and the Colombo Crime Investigation Unit, have arrested between 147 and 150 foreign nationals in Chilaw's Ambakandawila-Iranawila area. The arrests, made at a local hotel where the individuals had reportedly been staying for about a month, are linked to alleged online financial fraud. The arrested individuals include Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Taiwanese, and Bangladeshi nationals. During the operation, two Chinese nationals sustained injuries while attempting to flee and were admitted to the Chilaw District General Hospital. Authorities seized hundreds of electronic devices, including laptops, desktop computers, and mobile phones, from the suspects.
