One in Three Sri Lankans Affected by High Blood Pressure, Health Ministry Warns

Health authorities in Sri Lanka have revealed that one in every three individuals in the country suffers from high blood pressure. These hypertension-related illnesses are a significant factor, contributing to approximately 34 percent of all reported deaths. Dr. Shreeni Alahapperuma, Director of the Non-Communicable Diseases Unit, highlighted that the condition often presents no noticeable symptoms, making regular check-ups crucial, particularly for those over 35. Alarmingly, a substantial 63.9 percent of individuals diagnosed with high blood pressure do not seek treatment, according to recent data.
