Old Bogambara Prison Re-established to Alleviate Prison Congestion

The Old Bogambara prison premises have been officially designated as a prison through an Extraordinary Gazette notification issued by the Minister of Justice and National Integration, Harshana Nanayakkara. This decision, made under Section 2 of the Prisons Ordinance, aims to alleviate overcrowding within Sri Lanka's prison system. In parallel, a new prison is being established at the former Mahamodara hospital premises in Galle. The Ministry of Justice indicated that security measures will be enhanced before inmates are transferred to these facilities.
