Nuwara Eliya Potato Farmers to Benefit from Rs. 220 Guaranteed Price Scheme

A special government program has been launched to support potato farmers in Nuwara Eliya, addressing immediate marketing difficulties. Commencing on May 10th, 2026, the initiative ensures locally harvested potatoes are purchased at a guaranteed price of Rs. 220 per kilogram. The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development is overseeing the procurement process at the All Island Agriculture Co-operative Society Ltd. in Blackpool. Farmers can sell up to 1000 kilograms per day directly to the government, providing a stable market and fair price for their produce.
