The Nuwara Eliya High Court, presided over by High Court Judge Viraj Weerasuriya, sentenced four individuals to death. This included a 47-year-old man for a murder in the Nanu Oya Police Division in 1998, and a 55-year-old man for the murder of his mother, wife, and child in Pattipola in 2009. Additionally, two men aged 64 and 62 received death sentences for the killing of a man with a sharp weapon in Bagawantalawa in 1990.

The Nuwara Eliya High Court today, February 2, sentenced four individuals to death in connection with three long-standing murder cases. High Court Judge Viraj Virasuriya delivered the verdicts. The first case involved the 1998 murder of a 57-year-old man in the Lindula Meraya Estate within the Nanu Oya police division, for which 47-year-old Ponnambalam Sadeesh was convicted. In the second case, 55-year-old R.M. Chandratilake received the death penalty for the 2019 killing of his mother, wife, and child in the Pattipola area. The third conviction pertained to a 1990 murder in Bogawantalawa, where a 64-year-old individual was found guilty of killing a person with a sharp weapon.
