Northern Railway Line to Fully Resume Services on April 9th After Cyclone Repairs

The Sri Lanka Railway Department has announced the completion of repairs to the Northern railway line, which was damaged by Cyclone Ditwa. Full train services on the route from Colombo Fort to Kankasanthurai are scheduled to resume on April 9th. As of today, April 4th, passengers can already make seat reservations for specific services. These include the 5:15 AM train from Galkissa to Kankasanthurai and the 1:50 PM Intercity Express from Kankasanthurai to Galkissa.

Train services on the Northern Line officially resumed this morning (April 9th). The first intercity express service from Colombo Fort to Kankesanthurai departed from Galkissa (Mount Lavinia) station at 5:15 a.m. today. Additionally, the Rajarata Rejina train and office trains, which previously operated up to Mahawa, have now extended their services to Anuradhapura as part of the resumption. Several additional trains have also been added to the Northern Line schedule for the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year season.

Further details on the resumption of services indicate that the Jaffna Intercity Express and Night Mail trains are scheduled to run daily from Thursday, April 9th. The Yal Devi train will also resume daily services from Friday, April 10th. Additionally, it has been reported that the permanent reconstruction work on the damaged Northern Railway Line was completed with a grant from the Indian government.
