New Chinese Ambassador Wei Huaxiang Meets Former President Rajapaksa, Discusses Bilateral Ties

The newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Wei Huaxiang, held a meeting with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at his Colombo residence on September 9th. Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and China, including cooperation between the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC). Ambassador Wei, who assumed duties on August 25th, presented Rajapaksa with a book of traditional Chinese paintings. SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam also attended the meeting. The visit underscores China's view of Sri Lanka as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy.
