Negombo Prison Officer Receives Death Threats Following Riot Intervention

A prison officer involved in controlling the recent Negombo Prison riot is reportedly facing continuous death threats. The officer had fired shots to prevent inmates from breaking through the main gate and escaping, as well as to rescue fellow officers who were reportedly held hostage and assaulted. Reports indicate that some threats have been made by unruly inmates, while others are believed to originate from abroad, including Dubai. It is also noted that the officer reported for duty during the emergency while undergoing treatment for dengue fever. The Department of Prisons has since taken necessary measures to ensure his security, with fellow officers advocating for his protection.
