Nawalapitiya Submerged as Mahaweli River Overflows After Heavy Rainfall

Heavy rainfall since early morning on the 20th has caused the Mahaweli River to overflow, leading to significant flooding in Nawalapitiya. Several low-lying areas within the Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat Division, including Kithulkote, Labuwelkotuwa, and Jayasundara Ovita, have been inundated. The flooding has resulted in several houses being submerged and the displacement of nearly 100 families. Key infrastructure, such as the Nawalapitiya bus stand and parts of the main Nawalapitiya-Kandy road, were also affected, causing traffic disruptions.
