Navy Rescues 8 Stranded Individuals Off Thalaimannar, Suspected Human Smuggling Operation

The Sri Lanka Navy rescued a group of eight individuals, including four women and three children, who were found stranded on a sandbank off Thalaimannar on September 5. Naval personnel on routine patrol detected the distressed group, who had reportedly travelled from Rameshwaram, India. Preliminary inquiries suggest the individuals may have been abandoned in connection with a suspected human smuggling operation. The rescued individuals, including children aged 2, 11, and 14, received immediate humanitarian assistance, including drinking water, food, and temporary shelter.
