The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) reported a substantial number of complaints received in the past year. A total of 10,455 complaints were lodged with the NCPA during 2025. Of these, 2,099 complaints were specifically related to incidents of cruelty against children. These figures were announced by Shanika Malalgoda, the NCPA's Director of Planning and Information. Malalgoda shared this information during a media briefing held on April 6th at the Government Information Department, which focused on raising awareness about child protection.
