Namal Rajapaksa, National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and a Member of Parliament, recently commented on the perceived double standards in how assets are viewed in Sri Lanka. Speaking to media after a religious program at the Kelaniya Maha Viharaya, Rajapaksa stated, sarcastically, that while assets held by government members are often considered "social capital," those belonging to opposition politicians or public servants are frequently labelled as "theft." He further elaborated that he is currently studying the concept of "social capital." The religious event, held at Kelaniya, was organized by SLPP members from the Kelaniya electorate and Gampaha district to commemorate his birthday.
