Multiple Arrests Made in Wildlife Smuggling Crackdown Across Sri Lanka

Wildlife authorities, supported by Air Force intelligence and the Special Task Force (STF), have conducted multiple raids resulting in several arrests related to the illegal trade of protected wildlife. In the Galewela area, four individuals were apprehended on April 27, 2026, for possessing 20 highly protected Smooth Spider Conchs, 22 unidentified sea conchs, and two deer antlers, among other animal parts. Separately, in the Bulathsinhala area, two to three individuals were arrested for similar offenses involving illegal sea conchs and deer antlers. These operations highlight ongoing efforts to combat wildlife trafficking across the island.
