Dharmapuram Police have arrested a mother, her partner, and a woman accused of purchasing a two-year-old girl for Rs. 40,000. The arrests followed a complaint by the Dharmapuram Grama Niladhari, alleging the child was sold to a woman in the Colombo area. Investigations revealed that Rs. 15,000 of the sale proceeds was reportedly used to purchase a mobile phone. Suspects claimed the sale was to secure funds for medical treatment for the girl's four-year-old elder sister, who suffers from thalassemia. Police have since located the child and taken the mobile phone into custody.

Authorities also recovered a mobile phone purchased for Rs. 15,000 using part of the sale proceeds, which is now in police custody. The girl's mother, her illicit partner, and the woman from the Colombo area who allegedly bought the child were remanded until April 29th after being produced before the Kilinochchi court on April 26th.
