Dharmapuram Police have arrested a mother, her partner, and a woman accused of purchasing a two-year-old girl for Rs. 40,000. The arrests followed a complaint by the Dharmapuram Grama Niladhari, alleging the child was sold to a woman in the Colombo area. Investigations revealed that Rs. 15,000 of the sale proceeds was reportedly used to purchase a mobile phone. Suspects claimed the sale was to secure funds for medical treatment for the girl's four-year-old elder sister, who suffers from thalassemia. Police have since located the child and taken the mobile phone into custody.
