The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has reiterated its directive to schools to minimize event expenses, following reports of excessive spending and the disregard of previous instructions. Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa emphasized that events should be conducted simply and cost-effectively to avoid burdening parents. Schools are also reminded to strictly adhere to Circular 54/2023 concerning school financial management.

The Ministry of Education has issued a directive to all school principals, urging them to conduct school festivals and commemorations in a simple and low-cost manner. This instruction comes amidst reports that some schools have been spending excessively on such events, despite previous guidelines, thereby creating an unnecessary financial burden for parents. The Ministry emphasized that future programs must ensure parents are not required to bear additional expenses.
