Ministry Launches 'Surakimu Lanka' Program for School Energy Conservation

The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has launched the "Surakimu Lanka" school energy conservation program, accompanied by a new circular for its implementation. This initiative aims to foster a culture of energy conservation and promote efficient energy usage throughout the nation's school system. The program seeks to enhance energy security and environmental sustainability, particularly in light of anticipated climate pattern changes like El Niño, which could lead to increased daytime temperatures and water scarcity. Schools are instructed to carry out the relevant activities before the conclusion of the first academic term, prior to the commencement of holidays, or on a suitable alternative date if necessary. The overarching theme for the program is "Save Energy Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow," encouraging responsible practices among students and the wider school community.
