Ministerial Defence Committee Convenes on Northern and Eastern Land Issues

The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Defence convened this afternoon (07) at Parliament, chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Defence. The meeting focused on the progress of prior discussions and concerns raised by Members of Parliament representing the Northern Province, as well as both government and opposition parties. Key discussions revolved around challenges and potential solutions for the release of lands held by security forces in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. Additionally, the committee addressed issues concerning the reopening of closed road sections and problems related to lands associated with religious sites in these regions.
