Minister Assures Provincial Council Elections Will Be Held This Year

Science and Technology Minister Chrishantha Abeyasena announced that Provincial Council elections will be held within this year. Speaking at a public event in Kandy on May 15, the minister assured that there are no plans to delay the polls. He noted that the government has had to address more urgent challenges, including the Ditwah cyclone. While confirming the elections will occur in 2026, Minister Abeyasena could not provide a specific timeframe for when they will be conducted.
