The Midigama area has experienced two separate shooting incidents within a short period, according to recent reports. The first incident occurred on April 17th, targeting a residence in the Yahuwatta, Gangoda area around 11:40 PM. Police confirmed that while the house sustained property damage, there were no casualties in this attack. A second, more severe shooting took place in the early hours of April 19th, around 3 AM, inside a shop in Midigama town. This incident tragically resulted in one fatality. Midigama Police are actively conducting investigations into both occurrences to identify those responsible and ascertain the motives behind the attacks.

New details indicate the incident occurred more precisely around 11:45 PM on April 18th. Police have stated that two unidentified gunmen, arriving on a motorcycle, carried out the attack. Residents reported that the suspects opened the gate and entered the premises before setting fire to the vehicle and firing approximately five shots. Police suspect the shooting may be linked to an underworld gang.

A third shooting incident has been reported in Midigama, occurring on the night of April 18th at a house in Yahuwatta, Gangodagama. A group of individuals, reportedly arriving on a motorcycle, opened fire on the residence using a T-56 assault rifle and subsequently set fire to a motor vehicle parked on the premises. The house owner managed to extinguish the car fire, which sustained minor damage. No injuries or fatalities were reported in this incident, though the house sustained damage to doors, windows, and walls. Police discovered 12 live rounds and 5 empty shell casings at the scene. The owner of the house operates a fitness center in Weligama. Midigama Police are investigating.
