Meteorology Department Issues 'Red' Advisory for Strong Winds and Rough Seas

The Department of Meteorology has issued strong wind and rough sea advisories, including a 'Red' alert, for Sri Lankan coastal areas. The 'Red' advisory specifically warns of very rough seas and gusty winds up to 60-70 kmph in sea areas from Kankesanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar. Other coastal regions, including Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota and Trincomalee to Kankesanthurai, are experiencing rough seas with winds up to 50-60 kmph and wave heights potentially reaching 2.0-2.5 meters. Concurrently, 'Amber' advisories have been issued for strong winds of 40-50 kmph affecting inland provinces such as Central, Sabaragamuwa, Northern, and North-Central, along with Trincomalee and Hambantota districts. Naval and fishing communities are advised to remain vigilant and monitor updates.
