The Department of Meteorology has re-issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for strong winds and rough seas. The advisory is now in effect from 10:30 a.m. today (16) until 10:30 a.m. tomorrow (17). Sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to experience rough conditions with strong gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph and wave heights of 2.0–2.5 metres. Naval and fishing communities are urged to remain vigilant.

The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory, downgrading from the previously implied ‘Red’ advisory, for strong winds and rough seas. The advisory is in effect from 8:30 p.m. today (14) until 8:30 p.m. tomorrow (15). Strong winds of 40-50 kmph are expected in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Northern, North-central provinces, and Trincomalee and Hambantota districts. Sea areas from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will experience rough conditions with gusty winds reaching 50–60 km/h and wave heights up to 2.0–2.5 metres. Naval and fishing communities are urged to be vigilant.
