Man Dies After Soil Mound Collapses During Excavation in Maskeliya

A 41-year-old man died in Maskeliya on May 31, 2026, after a soil mound collapsed on him while he was excavating land near his home for a new building. The victim, identified as Rajendran Gobinath and a father of one, was reportedly buried by the sudden collapse of the earth. Although locals rushed him to Maskeliya Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Maskeliya Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the fatal accident.
