Major Cannabis Bust in Hambegamuwa: Thousands of Plants Seized, One Arrested

Authorities in Hambegamuwa have dismantled a large-scale cannabis cultivation operation following police raids. Approximately 54,096 cannabis plants, estimated to be worth over Rs. 73 million, were discovered on a one-and-a-half-acre plantation. In a separate but related operation, officers also seized 1,044 kilograms of prepared cannabis ready for transport. The discovered plants have been destroyed by fire, and one suspect has been arrested in connection with the cultivation. Further investigations are being conducted by the Wellawaya Police.
