All movable and immovable assets belonging to the Mahindananda Foundation, which had been operating on a leased basis for approximately 20 to 25 years, have been officially returned to the Department of Railways. The handover, which took place on May 2, 2024, occurred following a directive from the District Coordination Committee in December last year, where officials were instructed to reacquire the land in Nawalapitiya. The process was led by the Foundation's Secretary, Chamika Dharmatilaka, and the assets include valuable commercial land and building systems located on Railway Department property.

The Railway Department has reclaimed a plot of land and a building in Nawalapitiya town that housed the Mahindananda Aluthgamage Foundation. The land, leased for 25 years, was returned today (02-05-2026) after a breach of contract related to a meditation program. A three-story building stood on the 13.25-perch plot. The property is slated to be used as a playground.
