All movable and immovable assets belonging to the Mahindananda Foundation, which had been operating on a leased basis for approximately 20 to 25 years, have been officially returned to the Department of Railways. The handover, which took place on May 2, 2024, occurred following a directive from the District Coordination Committee in December last year, where officials were instructed to reacquire the land in Nawalapitiya. The process was led by the Foundation's Secretary, Chamika Dharmatilaka, and the assets include valuable commercial land and building systems located on Railway Department property.
