Foreign Job Scam: Three Arrested for Defrauding Rs. 30M+ in Canada Job Promises

The Special Investigation Unit of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has arrested three individuals, including two women and one man, in connection with a large-scale foreign employment scam. The suspects allegedly defrauded job seekers of over 10 million rupees by promising positions in Albania, Canada, and Japan. Operating under the guise of a student visa agency named Global Educare Consultancy in Maharagama, the establishment was found to be running without a valid SLBFE license. Authorities seized numerous documents, including job agreements, during the raid.

Further investigations by the Special Investigation Division of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) have led to the arrest of two more individuals, bringing the total number of arrests to three. These arrests, made on April 8, follow an initial arrest in March. The suspects are accused of defrauding individuals of nearly Rs. 30 million (3 crore) by promising employment opportunities in Canada, claiming connections to a Canadian institution. The SLBFE has received 9 complaints regarding this scam. Investigations revealed that the suspect arrested in March had deposited money into the accounts of the other individuals involved.

Investigations by the Special Investigation Division of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) have led to the arrest of one woman in connection with the Maharagama foreign job scam. The suspect operated an unlicensed "Global Educare Consultancy", posing as a student visa service provider while defrauding multiple individuals of over Rs. 10 million by promising employment opportunities in Albania and Canada.
