Police have uncovered a cache of firearms, including a locally manufactured Mini Uzi-type automatic weapon, hidden in a public cemetery in Colombo. This marks the first time such a locally produced weapon of this type has been discovered in Sri Lanka. The discovery, made by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), also included a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, and three rounds of ammunition. Authorities acted on information obtained during the interrogation of Mahawatte Chamara, an alleged drug trafficker recently deported from Dubai. Chamara is currently in CCIB custody.
