The Deputy Mayor of the Kurunegala Municipal Council, Ashardeen Moinudeen, has been remanded until May 21st after being arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). He was apprehended on May 8th in Battaramulla for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 3 million from a businessman. The funds were reportedly demanded in exchange for awarding a tender for the cleaning of the Kurunegala Bus Stand and its public toilets. Moinudeen, a member of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), was presented before the Aluthkade Magistrate's Court on May 9th. Following his arrest, the ACMC announced the immediate suspension of his party membership.
