Kuda Ganga Sub-Basin on Alert as Heavy Rains Swell River Levels

The Department of Irrigation has issued an Amber flood warning for the Kuda Ganga sub-basin of the Kalu River following considerable rainfall in its upstream catchment areas. Water levels in the Kuda Ganga have risen, reaching a minor flood level in the Millakanda area. Residents in low-lying areas within the Bulathsinhala, Madurawala, and Palindanuwara Divisional Secretariat divisions are advised to remain vigilant, as a minor flood situation is possible within the next 24 hours, with a high risk of roads in flood plains becoming inundated. Separately, the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued early landslide warnings for Kalutara, Ratnapura, and Nuwara Eliya districts, urging caution.
