Kandy National Hospital Boosts Facilities with Rs. 600 Million High-Tech Equipment

Kandy National Hospital has significantly upgraded its medical facilities with the installation of two new high-tech treatment machines. The equipment, comprising an Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) unit and a Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) unit, is valued at approximately Rs. 600 million, though some reports indicate a lower figure. The ESWL machine, estimated at Rs. 200 million, is designed to treat kidney and bladder stones non-invasively using acoustic waves, restoring a crucial service that was previously unavailable due to a malfunctioning older unit. These additions were provided by the Ministry of Health as part of a strategic initiative to enhance physical resources within the national healthcare system. The new machines were officially handed over under the leadership of Hospital Director Dr. Iresha Fernando.
