Kandy Esala Perahera Begins First Randoli Procession

The first Randoli Perahera of the historic Kandy Esala Perahera festival is scheduled to parade the streets of Kandy today, August 23rd. The procession is set to commence at the auspicious time of 6:44 p.m. It will follow a traditional route through key streets including Dalada Veediya, Temple Street, Deva Veediya, Colombo Street, Kotugodella Veediya, Cross Street, D.S. Senanayake Veediya, and Raja Veediya, concluding at the Sri Dalada Maligawa. A special traffic plan has been implemented by police in Kandy, with alternative routes announced for motorists to manage congestion during the event. The vibrant procession is expected to feature decorated elephants, dancers, and musicians.
