Kalpitiya Standoff: Dual Investigations Launched into Police-Air Force Clash at Firing Range

Investigations are underway by both Sri Lanka Police and the Air Force following a tense incident at the Kalpitiya Air Force firing range on March 17th. The situation reportedly escalated during a bomb disposal exercise when three individuals, one of whom identified himself as police, entered the secure area without prior authorization. Air Force personnel on duty, along with an STF officer, questioned the unauthorized entrants. Police have also initiated their own probe into a heated exchange, described by police as occurring during a raid for illegal goods, where a jurisdictional dispute allegedly arose. Both security forces are seeking to clarify the circumstances of the confrontation.
