Joint Operation Nabs 33 for Illegal Fishing, Seizes 18 Dinghies

A joint operation involving the Sri Lanka Navy, Police, and Fisheries Inspectorate has successfully apprehended 33 individuals and seized 18 dinghies engaged in illegal fishing activities. The crackdown, which spanned from August 16 to August 27, covered coastal areas within the Eastern and Northern Naval Commands. The multi-agency effort aimed to curb unlawful fishing practices threatening marine resources. The arrested individuals and seized equipment have been handed over to the relevant Fisheries and Water Resources Department offices and police stations for further legal action.
