The Government of Japan has provided a financial grant of USD 1.33 million to Sri Lanka to support freshwater fishermen in the Eastern Province. This initiative aims to uplift those whose livelihoods were affected by Cyclone Diwtah. The project includes the establishment of 200 fish cages across 30 selected reservoirs and will provide crucial technical training to the fishermen. The agreement was signed by Sri Lanka's Minister of Fisheries, Ramalingam Chandrasekaran, and the Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Akio Isomata, with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN providing technical assistance.
