Venerable Battaramulle Seelarathana Thera, leader of the Janasetha Front, was assaulted on the morning of September 2, 2026, in the Weeragula area. The attack occurred at a temple in Warana, Attanagalla, during a meeting to discuss funeral arrangements for a devotee, reportedly following an escalation of arguments. The injured monk was admitted to Gampaha Hospital for treatment. The assailant fled the scene, and Weeragula Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
