Islandwide Raids by Consumer Affairs Authority Detect Underweight Bread at 54 Outlets

Sri Lanka's Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) conducted islandwide inspections from September 1 to 3, targeting 118 retail outlets and bakeries. The special programme aimed to ensure bread sold to consumers meets the prescribed weight. Preliminary findings revealed that 54 establishments were found selling underweight bread. Additionally, 76 shops and bakeries failed to properly display the weight of their bread products. CAA Chairman Hemantha Samarakoon stated that investigations will now trace the supply chain backwards to the bakeries or manufacturers responsible for producing underweight loaves.
