Iran Imposes New Regulations, Fees on Strait of Hormuz Traffic Amid Tensions

Iran has mandated that all commercial vessels intending to pass through the Strait of Hormuz must register via a new centralized online system, effective immediately. This directive, issued by the Persian Gulf Maritime Authority, also introduces a new 'maritime service fee' for transit. While a 60-day grace period is reportedly offered for passage without fees, Iran has emphasized its commitment to asserting control over the strategic waterway, warning of severe military retaliation against any vessel deviating from approved routes. The measures are reportedly a response to foreign interference in the region.
