A married couple was hospitalized following an alleged assault during an Avurudu festival at the Hiripitiyagama playground in Ipalogama on April 25th. The victims claim they were attacked by Gayan Adhikari, an Ipalogama Pradeshiya Sabha member representing the National People's Power (NPP), along with a group of individuals. The couple, residents of Aluthpuliyankulama, Wijithapura, was initially admitted to Kekirawa District Hospital before being transferred to Dambulla Base Hospital for further treatment. Reports indicate the woman sustained bleeding from her ear, while her husband's hand joint was reportedly broken. A complaint regarding the incident has been lodged with the Ipalogama Police.
