Police have arrested a 76-year-old man suspected of arranging two individuals to act as sureties for Kapila Chandrasena, the former CEO of SriLankan Airlines. The two individuals, identified as Mohamed Rizwan and Mohamed Irshan, were reportedly paid Rs. 15,000 each to stand as sureties for a bail bond of Rs. 100 million. Both sureties have been remanded in custody until December 13th, with one ordered to appear for an identification parade. The arrest of the intermediary follows the detention of the individuals who allegedly provided the paid sureties. Source 4 notes that Kapila Chandrasena had mysteriously died recently.

Four suspects involved in the alleged fake bail scheme for former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena have been released on bail today (May 20th). The individuals granted bail are the two alleged fake sureties, Mohamed Rizwan and Mohamed Irshad, along with intermediaries Ariya Thissa de Silva and Perumal Ganesh, who is identified as an employee attached to the office of Aravinda de Silva. Colombo Additional Magistrate Lahiru Silva ordered each suspect released on two personal bails of Rs. 500,000. The court also imposed a foreign travel ban on one suspect and directed the submission of Grama Niladhari certificates and proof of assets. Reports also note that Kapila Chandrasena died under suspicious circumstances.

The Colombo Additional Magistrate Lahiru Silva ordered the release, granting each suspect two personal bails of Rs. 500,000. Additionally, one suspect has been subjected to a foreign travel ban. The court also directed the submission of Grama Niladhari certificates confirming residence and proof of assets.

New reports confirm that the two fake sureties, Mohamed Rizwan and Mohamed Irshan, and the intermediary Ariya Thissa de Silva have been further remanded until May 20th. Investigations are being conducted by Keselwatta Police, and the remand order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Lahiru Silva. The sureties are residents of Sanchi Arachchiwatte, near the court complex.
