A prison jailer and a guard were arrested by Borella Police on April 27th concerning the death of a remand prisoner at Magazine Prison. The arrests followed an altercation inside the prison involving two inmates and a guard, which left three individuals injured. One inmate, a 37-year-old resident of Nawagampura, Colombo 14, who was in remand custody for narcotics possession, succumbed to his injuries. The Borella Police, Colombo Crimes Division, and Colombo South Division Criminal Investigation Unit are conducting further investigations, ordered by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and supervised by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Colombo Division.
