India Donates USD 5 Million in Defence and Medical Aid to Sri Lanka Army

New details have emerged regarding India's donation of military stores and a trauma care system to the Sri Lanka Army. The consignment is now specified as being valued at USD 5.5 million. The aid was provided to enhance the operational readiness of the Sri Lanka Army, following a request from the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence. The equipment was sourced from operational stocks of the Indian Army and was delivered within approximately one month to address an equipment shortage. The consignment arrived at Colombo Port aboard the Indian Navy ship 'Sharda'.

The ceremony took place at the Army Headquarters, Defence Headquarters Complex in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte. Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha presented the donation to Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), with Army Commander Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo also in attendance. The aid was provided under India's Grant Assistance programme.
