India Approves First Dengue Vaccine, QDENGA, for Ages 4-60

India has granted market authorisation for its first dengue vaccine, QDENGA, developed by Takeda Biopharmaceuticals India. The approval by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) allows the vaccine's use for individuals aged 4 to 60 years. QDENGA, a live-attenuated tetravalent vaccine, is administered in two doses three months apart and protects against all four dengue serotypes. Significantly, it can be given regardless of prior dengue infection and does not require pre-vaccination screening. This development comes as India faces increasing dengue cases and hospitalizations in several states.
