The International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Executive Board has approved the fifth and sixth reviews of Sri Lanka's Extended Fund Facility (EFF), paving the way for an additional USD 695 million disbursement. This approval follows the board's meeting on May 27th. The IMF had initially committed a total financial assistance package of USD 3 billion to Sri Lanka in March 2023. With this latest tranche, the total funds disbursed to Sri Lanka under the EFF program are expected to reach USD 2.4 billion.

Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, reiterated that the USD 695 million tranche (6th and 7th) has been credited to the Treasury. He stated that the funds will help increase the country's foreign reserves and serve as a response to baseless accusations regarding temporary Rupee depreciation.

The USD 695 million tranche from the IMF, corresponding to the sixth and seventh tranches, has been credited to the Treasury. This disbursement follows the completion of the Fifth and Sixth reviews of the Extended Fund Facility program. The receipt of these funds brings the total purchases under the arrangement to SDR1.778 billion.

The IMF Executive Board approved the 5th and 6th reviews of the Extended Fund Facility program on May 27. This disbursement brings the total IMF financial support to Sri Lanka under the program to approximately US$2.4 billion.
