Heavy Rains Swell Rivers Across Sri Lanka, Triggering Flood and Landslide Warnings

Heavy rainfall across Sri Lanka has led to a significant rise in water levels of several rivers, including the Kuda Ganga, Kalu Ganga, Kelani, Gin, Nilwala, Attanagalu Oya, and Mahaweli. The Irrigation Department has advised residents in low-lying areas and along river banks to exercise caution. In response, the National Building Research Organisation has issued a Level 1 landslide pre-warning for four districts: Kalutara, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura. The Irrigation Department has also released two 'Amber' Level 01 pre-warning notices, effective for the next 24 hours, highlighting the potential for minor flooding.
