Heavy rainfall on Tuesday afternoon (May 21) in Sri Lanka's Hatton-Dickoya region led to significant flooding. Approximately 50 estate houses located in the low-lying areas of the Fordyce Estate in Dickoya were completely submerged. The inundation was caused by the overflow of the Dickoya stream, which flows through the estate and feeds into the Castlereagh Reservoir. This severe weather also resulted in the complete disruption of vehicular movement along the Hatton Fordyce–Dayagama road. Authorities report that over 100 residents have been displaced, with estate management actively working to relocate them to secure locations.
