Heavy Rainfall Causes Flooding, Disrupts Traffic in Wellawaya and Bandarawela

Heavy rainfall on the night of May 10th caused significant flooding in Wellawaya and surrounding areas. Sections of the Wellawaya-Colombo main road, including the Gangaramaya Temple and Ethiliwewa areas, were inundated, leading to traffic disruptions. Additionally, approximately 10 houses in the Somiyal Junction, Telulla, and Veherayaya regions were flooded, with some furniture damaged, though water levels receded by the morning of May 11th. Separately, on May 11th, Bandarawela town experienced flooding along Dharmavijaya Mawatha due to intense showers and blocked drainage systems. This flooding in Bandarawela also submerged vehicles and shops, causing considerable inconvenience.
