Health Ministry Suspends Two Doctors Over Infant Death During Trincomalee Strike

The Ministry of Health has suspended the services of two medical professionals at the Trincomalee District General Hospital following the death of an infant. The infant died on April 9th, reportedly during a strike action by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA). A preliminary investigation into the incident uncovered serious lapses in duty, prompting the suspension of the hospital's Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist and a Senior Resident Medical Officer. Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that the doctors' actions may have constituted a criminal offense.
