The Hatton Magistrate's Court has ordered the destruction of 1,740 kilograms of yellow dhal found to be unfit for human consumption due to insect infestation. Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) from the Kotagala Medical Officer of Health (MOH) office seized the contaminated stock during an inspection of a wholesale store in Kotagala. Presented before Hatton District Judge and Magistrate Peter Paul today, the court mandated the dhal's destruction by pouring kerosene over it at the Talawakelle Lindula Urban Council waste recycling center. The owner of the consignment admitted guilt in court and was subsequently ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 2,000.
